Welcome to ACOR’s Syria homepage.

The American Center of Research (ACOR) is an international, non-profit academic institution, whose mission is advancing knowledge of Jordan and the interconnected region, past and present.

When founded in 1968, we were intended to cover most of the Arabic-speaking world in the Bilad al-Sham and Hejaz, specifically that east of the Jordan River. For decades, we conducted work and supported others’ work across this region. Due to war and other conflicts, we have most recently focused on efforts within Jordan but continued to offer fellowships and host lectures/research about the greater region. Today, we recognize our originally intended scope, specifically including Syria, and work toward preserving and advancing knowledge of its cultural heritage.
